Rebirth, 2019, linocut prints on fabric, 38” x 18” x 18”
Statement:
The cocoon/chrysalis symbolizes growth, change, and rebirth in direct relation to the life cycle of a moth/butterfly. I use this symbol to reflect on the cyclical nature of my mental states. For me, the symbol of the cloud also relates to shifts in moods. My goal was to visually depict the need to hide in a safe, secluded space, where transformation awaits.
It’s been proven that moths and butterflies—though they go through a tremendous metamorphosis—retain their memory they had as caterpillars. There are immediate reactions to particular stimuli, much how I subconsciously react based on memories I’ve forgotten.
I want to propose the questions: Who am I? What am I feeling? What will I become?
